England our hometown

This blog is dedicated to the country of England which on tour in October
Welcomed us home. Thanks to the wonderful talents of Sally Irvine and Mark
Cotton our town criers Nottingham, Manchester, Glasgow, and
London came out in full force. Paul and Eliza of Brighton started us off right
With good times in Brighton, riding double decker buses drunkenly, good food
At the local pub, and listening to good music. Got to sleep in their teenage son’s
Black satin sheets for the night, Doesn’t get any more rock and roll than that.
Woke up to a great home cooked breakfast by the handsome Paul. And damned but
Even the sun was shining. Paul kindly loaned Chick his beautiful orange amp and les paul black beauty, and a bass for me, and trustedly sent us on our way to Nottingham. We rode through Sherwood Forest into Nottingham to the Bodega Social for our first show. Met up with Just Fontaine who were sharing the bill and All their equipment. Big shout out to Mark the bass player for his cool bass amp, and even bringing me a Fender to use the next night in Manchester so I could bleed all over it. Ryan the soundguy made sure the monitors were amazing, and we rocked the stage after our documentary went over well. Thanks to Sally everything ran like clockwork. And Stan made sure the guitars were in tune. Had a bit too much to drink thanks to Anton the promoter, and got picked up by a lovely young boy of 20 who though I was in my 20’s. Nothing flatters a girl more. Stan stopped me before I could kiss jailbait. Off to the lovely house of Steve and Vanessa and got to sleep in their bedroom with the most rock and roll black flower wallpaper. Very hot! Steve sent us off with a proper coffee, chat, and smokes and we were off to Manchester.

Arrived at the University of Manchester to do a radio interview with some young kid named Steve who really didn’t know much about Scarce but made sure Chick had a brand new acoustic guitar to play on our session. The girl interviewing us, (feel bad I can’t remember her name), she asked us the question, “So how long have you been a band” so we gave the short of it as well as you can, and played a smoking version of Break Your Heart which left her jaw dropped. Not bad for 2 pm. After a little walking around the hood we met the wonderful Kat soundwoman extroadinaire who proceeded to turn the club Night and Day into CBGBs. Found a pair of smoking hot white 60’s boots and it was all white for the Scarce crew that night. Smoking set majorly in part to Kat the soundwoman who is talented and was dancing halfway through the set. Kat, if your listening, if Scarce ever makes it big we are coming to get you and drag you along with us. Great crowd in Manchester and hung out with owner and his bud In a sweaty haze of drunkenness. That night off to mysterious place in the woods, 500 year old mansion, where a girl named Honesty lived with her boyfriend Jim. Drank good wine waiting at the mansion gates out of plastic cups made by Joe. Gates open and we were escorted up to dark rooms with fires. Honesty and Jim were gracious but an oncoming cold was getting the best of me so I dosed myself up with Sudafed and fell asleep and missed out on some fun so I discovered the next day.

Then off to Glasgow and we decided to get a hotel, thanks to Manchester we had enough cash to afford it. Stereo was a very cool club with another awesome woman at the board named Shauna. Opening the show that night was Peter Parker with three fabulous ladies Jane, Rose, Tori, and one great guy Jeremy. They sounded like the xray specs and blondie. Then Scarce played it’s best show ever, we swear it. Was sexy, sweaty, tight, rock and roll. Jane the hot blonde bass player took us out after the show to Nice and Sleazy where I got the best pick up line ever in my blue jacket and blue striped shirt and white pants: “Where you goin sailor? I’ll be your captain.” Listening to the beautiful Scottish accents was brilliant and musical. We had a small late night party at the hotel with Jane. Left Chick and her alone and since Chick does not kiss and tell, we will never know.

Off for a detour to Edinburgh to visit the castle. Amazing straight out of the rock and up for miles and miles. Scotland your beautiful and then back to London.
The Luminaire is an amazing club as Sally promised. Treating the artist so right. The Gresham Flyers and Coy Tosa opened the night followed by our doc. And then dear readers Scarce had something they never had, a room full of people singing every single word to every single song. It took me off guard at first. I felt overwhelmed for a second, but then wrapped myself in it and gave them everything they deserved. We had a groovy dance party after with DJ Nick Saloman of the Bevis Frond and Paul Simmons. Debbie Smith my old bud from Echobelly of yore was there to celebrate, as well as DJ Ola who took loads of pictures of my bloody finger. Groovy night and I am sure there are people I missed, but that night in London was special to Scarce.
That night in London we felt the love we felt that passion. We felt some serious hope and we felt like we came home to our hometown. So now we must get this record done so we can get ourselves back over to our hometown. We have a little more work to do to make it worthy of our superb supporters, and that may take some time. But we promise it will be worth the wait. England, our hometown Scarce sends
Love with all our hearts.

AN ISLAND OF LOVELY PEOPLE

Scarce is sending a shout out to Martha's Vineyard this weekend, for giving us not only the royal carpet treatment, but by surprising us by knowing all our songs! We arrived off the ferry in Vineyard Haven greeted by Colin, our new friend from the island—rocker, promoter, and Scarce's tour guide for the day, who gave us a lift in his wagon. As we stepped onto the island the clouds litterally parted and the sun came out. Colin and his girlfriend Neddy (an awesome jeweler and artist) took us to a private beach down a long dirt road, where we met up with a bunch of their friends to hang out on the beach for the afternoon. We had such a chill afternoon we almost forgot we had a show to play. We had a quick bite on a dock down in Menusha, fresh oysters, crab cakes, and other delicious delites straight off the dock and into our mouths. Then we headed down for soundcheck.

Nectars, formerly Outerland and we were told Hot Tin Roof, (Carly Simon's bar) was just getting up and running. Second show of the summer that night. The club was great, nice bartenders, clean white towels, even a shower to wash off from the beach. Alex the club manager heard us soundchecking our new song called Circus Boy, and he made sure we had a huge bucket of Magic Hat Circus Boy beer. Sweet. It was Joe's birthday too, and a lovely waitress brought us shots to celebrate. The show started with Loira Borra a lively punk rock three piece, and then Kahootz followed with a rockin set that had the crowd dancing and making us wonder why they weren't headlining. They were celebrating their record release, and I highly recommend buying their music if you don't have any. Elijah and Rob the two main guitar players and singers told us afterward they were the first ones on the island to see us at The Loudfest in Northhampton so long ago and brought a single back to a great local record store named Above Ground Records. So shout out to them both and to Michael who owns the record store for promoting our records ,and who invited us back to play a show their next time.

We took the stage thinking everyone but the bands would leave, and then the crowd surprised us. Not only did they stay but they knew our songs, and they knew Scarce. They sang along to all the songs, and danced, and gave us some much needed love. After an hour of bloody, sweaty, messy punk rock set, Rob from Kahootz put us up for the night in his groovy house in the woods. So shout out to Rob too, hope you enjoy reading the book! We met up with Colin and Neddy again for a goodbye breakfast and talks of another show there in the fall. Felt so much like Halifax there. Great people, great music, good vibes all around. So cheers to you Martha's Vineyard. We will be back soon. Thanks for your hospitality and love of music—and well just being lovely.
